The plot intercuts suspensefully between the master-of-disguise Jackal (...) as he sets up the score, and a messy alliance of compromised good guys (...) on a race against time to jar his aim.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Jackal about? Toggle content

In this high-stakes, action-packed thriller, a ruthless hitman known only as "The Jackal" (Bruce Willis) is hired by a powerful member of the Russian mafia to avenge his brother's death by taking out a top American government official. With only two weeks to stop him, FBI Deputy Director Carter Preston (Richard Gere) and Russian Police Major Valentina Koslova (Sidney Poitier) turn to an unlikely source for help: Declan Mulqueen (Declan Mulqueen), a jailed IRA sniper who has crossed paths with The Jackal in the past. As Mulqueen agrees to help in exchange for his release and safe haven for his former lover, the stakes are raised when The Jackal's identity is revealed to be that of an ex-U.S. Army Special Forces operative with combat experience in El Salvador. With time running out and The Jackal closing in on his target, Mulqueen must decide where his loyalties lie and whether he can bring himself to stop The Jackal before it's too late.
