Errol Morris, The Pigeon Tunnel, Foe & Killers of the Flower Moon poster

Simon may be back in the studio, but this week Mark steps into the interviewer’s chair. He sits down with legendary documentarian Errol Morris to discuss his new film about the storied life and career of the equally legendary spy novelist, John le Carré. Mark also gives his take on ‘Foe’, a psychological sci-fi starring Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal as a married couple conscripted into an off-planet settlement program; and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, Martin Scorsese’s epic Western crime drama set in 1920s Oklahoma, which centres on the serial murder of members of the oil-rich Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror. ...may not be a traditional gangster picture, but it's completely in tune with the stories of corrupt, violent men that Scorsese has explored for a half-century.

There’s a perennial fascination in the films of Martin Scorsese with the notion of power – the structures of it, the layers to it, the flow of it.

Monumental stuff: a story about the deadly legacy of America’s colonial sins, both vast and intimate in scope. Exceptional filmmaking, by an exceptional filmmaker.

This is a must watch. I watched Oppenheimer 3 times in theatres and might as well do the same with this one. The level of acting in this is at a whole other level.

In the 1920s, the Osage Nation in Oklahoma becomes wealthy after discovering oil on their land. However, members of the tribe begin to die mysteriously, and their white legal guardians, who manage their finances, are suspected of involvement. Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman, marries Ernest Burkhart, a white man, and they raise three children together. Mollie's family members begin to die under suspicious circumstances, and she suspects that her husband and his uncle, William King Hale, are involved. Hale, a powerful rancher and reserve deputy sheriff, has been secretly plotting the deaths of wealthy Osage, including Mollie's family, to gain control of their oil headrights. As the death toll rises, the Osage Nation becomes increasingly concerned about the safety of their people. Mollie's mother, Lizzie, urges the tribe to fight back against the white residents who are harming them. However, corrupt local authorities and judges turn a blind eye to the crimes. Mollie hires a private detective to investigate, but he is chased away by Ernest and Byron, who are carrying out Hale's orders. Desperate for help, Mollie travels to Washington with an Osage delegation and meets with President Calvin Coolidge to ask for assistance in solving the murders. The FBI eventually becomes involved in the investigation and uncovers a shocking web of deceit and murder orchestrated by Hale and his accomplices. The Osage people finally receive justice, but the trauma of the events leaves a lasting impact on their community.
