In the unforgiving wilderness of Siberia, a young officer named Ivan Demarin is sent by Tsar Peter the Great to the frontier town of Tobolsk, tasked with collecting gold to fund the war against Sweden. However, upon arrival, Ivan and his regiment are embroiled in a conspiracy involving local princes hunting for gold in the town of Yarkand. With their fort surrounded by hordes of wild Dzungars and no help in sight, Ivan's fate seems sealed. But as he fights for survival, he also discovers his first love, and the harsh realities of the Siberian frontier threaten to change him forever.
