Difret

In a small village in Ethiopia, a 14-year-old girl named Hirut is kidnapped on her way home from school and taken to be married to a much older man. When she tries to escape, she ends up shooting her would-be husband. The practice of abduction into marriage is common in this village, but Hirut's bravery and determination to fight back has consequences. Meaza Ashenafi, a tenacious young lawyer from the city, arrives to represent Hirut and argue that she acted in self-defense. Against all odds, Meaza takes on the patriarchal establishment and risks everything to save Hirut's life and challenge the long-standing tradition that perpetuates this form of violence against women. Will Meaza's determination be enough to change the course of history?
