The perfect study of two men's descent into madness. Robert Pattinson manages to hold his own alongside Willem Dafoe, who brings his legendary acting chops to this excellent, and captivating story.

The Lighthouse (2019) is a psychological horror film directed by Robert Eggers, set in 1890s New England. The movie follows two lighthouse keepers, Ephraim Winslow (Robert Pattinson) and Thomas Wake (Willem Dafoe), who start to lose their sanity while living on a remote and mysterious island. As they struggle to maintain their grip on reality, strange and terrifying events begin to occur, threatening their lives and sanity. The film opens with Ephraim Winslow, a former timberman, arriving on the island to start his four-week stint as a lighthouse keeper. He is met by Thomas Wake, a seasoned sailor who has been stationed on the island for years. Wake is immediately dismissive of Winslow's city-boy demeanor and subjects him to grueling tasks such as emptying chamber pots and painting the lighthouse. As the days go by, Winslow starts to experience strange hallucinations, including sea monsters and logs floating in the sea. He also becomes obsessed with a scrimshaw of a mermaid that he found in his quarters. Meanwhile, Wake's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, culminating in him revealing that his previous wickie died after losing his sanity. One evening, while dining together, the wind drastically changes direction and a fierce storm hits the island. The storm prevents the lighthouse tender from collecting them the next day, leaving them stranded for weeks. As tensions rise between the two men trapped on the isolated island , they descend into madness fueled by paranoia , fear , alcoholism , sexual tension . They unearth secrets about each other 's past which raises questions about their real identities raising question about their real identities . In addition there are supernatural elements at play within this horror story as both characters begin experiencing frightening hallucinations . these events ultimately lead up until it reaches its climax where one character murders another out of sheer desperation caused by isolation & insanity induced delusions..
