Misa's Fugue

Misa's Fugue tells the powerful true story of a young boy's survival during the Holocaust. Frank Grunwald, a Holocaust survivor, narrates his life story, from his childhood in Prague to his experiences in internment and concentration camps. Despite the unimaginable horrors he endured, Grunwald found solace in art and music, which become a symbol of hope and resilience. The film follows Grunwald's journey as he liberates from Gunskirchen in 1945, reunites with his father, and escapes communist Czechoslovakia to start a new life in the United States. Along the way, he shares his love of art and music, his career at General Electric, and his professorial position at Pratt Institute. The film concludes with a heart-wrenching discovery Grunwald makes after his father's suicide: a letter his mother wrote to her husband before she and Grunwald's older brother were taken to the gas chambers. The film is a poignant reminder of the human spirit's ability to endure even the darkest moments in history.
