Mixing social critique with a coming of age tale, Bergman's debut as a scriptwriter is a wonderful thriller-drama with excellent direction by Sjöberg. Highly recommended.

As Bertha becomes the target of Caligula's wrath, Jan-Erik must confront the dark truth about his mentor and the tragic fate that unfolds.
