...“Bottle Shock” is more than the story. It is also about people who love their work, care about it with passion and talk about it with knowledge.

For good and for bad, Bottle Shock takes its style as well as its substance from the '70s.

Charmerende skal en film om vindyrkere jo være, og dét er Bottle Shock i hvert fald.

What is Bottle Shock about? Toggle content

In the summer of 1976, a small wine shop owner in Paris, Steven Spurrier, decided to host a blind tasting competition between French and American wines. Despite the odds being against him, he wanted to prove that wines from the New World could stand up to those from the Old World. He traveled to California's Napa Valley in search of contestants and stumbled upon Chateau Montelena, a small winery run by Jim Barrett. Barrett's son Bo secretly passed Spurrier a couple of bottles of their Chardonnay for the competition. Due to reductionist techniques in wine making, the chardonnay had turned brown in the bottles, causing Barrett Sr. to call for it to be dumped. But Bo discovered that it was only temporary and managed to recover it just before it was too late! The rest is history as Montelena's Chardonnay won first prize at Spurrier’s Judgment of Paris tasting – shocking both him and his fellow judges! This twist of fate forever changed how people viewed wine around world - French wines were no longer unbeatable!
