“BlacKkKlansman” presents racism as a dichotomy between the absurd and the dangerous; the film’s intentional laughs often get caught in one’s throat.

In the early 1970s, Ron Stallworth, a black police officer from Colorado Springs, infiltrated the local Ku Klux Klan branch by posing as a white man over the phone. He recruited his Jewish colleague, Flip Zimmerman, to impersonate him and meet with Klan members in person. Through their undercover operation, they gathered information about the Klan's plans for violence and terrorism. Meanwhile, Stallworth began dating Patrice Dumas, an activist and president of the Black Student Union at Colorado College. As their relationship grew stronger, Stallworth struggled with the moral dilemma of keeping his true identity concealed from her. The film is based on a true story and explores themes of race relations, identity crisis, and police corruption during a time of civil unrest in America.
