In a modern twist on the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West," a self-serving mythical creature's bid for invincibility backfires when he finds himself at the mercy of a woman who can see otherworldly beings. Jin Seon-mi, a young girl born with the ability to see ghosts and spirits, is bound to Son Oh-gong, the Monkey King, by a contract that promises him protection in exchange for her assistance. However, Son Oh-gong betrays her trust and steals her memory of his name, leaving her stranded and alone. Years later, Seon-mi has grown up into an adult and owns a real estate company that specializes in buying haunted houses and exorcising spirits. When she crosses paths with Son Oh-gong again, she demands answers for his past betrayal. Meanwhile, Son Oh-gong is looking to reinstate his status as an immortal and learns that Sam-jang, who can grant immortality to anyone who eats their flesh, has been born. The twist? Sam-jang is none other than Seon-mi herself. As Son Oh-gong tries to figure out how to convince Seon-mi to die for him without violating his promise to protect her, Seon-mi begins to develop feelings for him despite knowing their tragic destiny as sacrifice and protector.
