The Stand In: A Comedy of Errors When Hollywood actress Candy Black's career takes a nosedive due to her addiction and anger issues, she locks herself up in her Long Island mansion and refuses to work. Her only joy is her secret pen pal relationship with Steve Grady. However, when she's sentenced to months in rehab and asks her former stand-in Paula to take her place, things take a bizarre turn. Paula not only relishes the role but also starts to take over Candy's life, stealing her identity and career. As Paula becomes the new Candy Black, she starts to make appearances on talk shows, lands a role in a reboot of Saddle Up, and even starts dating Steve. But things get complicated when Steve recognizes Cathy's voice from their phone calls and realizes that Paula has been impersonating Candy all along. In a twist of events, Cathy storms out, Steve dumps Paula, and the two women have a showdown. In the end, Cathy chooses not to resume working as Candy Black and instead focuses on building a relationship with Steve. Meanwhile, Paula is left alone, realizing that her attempts to sabotage Cathy's relationship have backfired. The film ends with a group of teenagers taking selfies next to a downed Paula outside the mansion as Cathy walks inside, finally free from her celebrity persona.
