Frequently Asked Questions

What is Insidious: The Red Door about? Toggle content

Insidious: The Red Door follows Josh Lambert and his college-aged son Dalton as they struggle to overcome their generational trauma. Nine years after Josh's possession, they uncover repressed memories of their family's dark past and the demon that haunts them. To put their demons to rest once and for all, they must go deeper into The Further than ever before, facing their family's eerie history and a host of new and more horrifying terrors that lurk behind the red door. The movie takes place nine years after the events of Insidious 2, and Josh is now divorced from his wife Renai, and his mother Lorraine has passed away. His relationship with Dalton has become strained, and he attempts to heal things between them while dropping him off at college but ends up in an argument. In his first art class, Dalton draws a picture of the red door used to enter The Further, which leads to Josh being haunted by his father's spirit whom he believed abandoned his family when he was young . Dalton's astral projection abilities lead to a series of terrifying encounters with the red-faced demon that tormented him as a child. Josh researches his father and discovers that he killed himself while institutionalized in a mental hospital . Renai helps Josh to go back into The Further to rescue Dalton , who is trapped in the demon's lair . Josh stays behind to keep the red door shut so Dalton will be safe, and Dalton returns to his body and paints over his red door painting with black paint , which in turns seals the real door and The Further . The movie ends with Josh meeting his father's spirit, who guides him back to this living world . Josh agrees to have dinner with Renai and the kids , hinting at a possible reunion . As he leaves , he unknowingly meets Elise' spirits , who tells him that he has a bright future ahead of him.
