Below Zero

Below Zero is a 2021 action-crime-thriller film directed by Lluís Quílez. The movie takes place during a harsh winter night, where a prisoner transfer van is attacked, and the cop in charge, Martín, must fight for survival against the criminals inside and outside while dealing with a silent foe - the icy temperatures. The film features a talented cast, including Javier Gutiérrez, Karra Elejalde, and Luis Callejo. The story begins with an injured man being pursued through a wood at night and caught by his pursuer, who buries him alive. The plot then shifts to police officer Martín, who starts a new job driving a prisoner transport vehicle at night, partnered with Officer Montesino. When the transport vehicle loses sight of the escorting police car due to fog, it is abruptly halted by a spiked strip on the road. Montesino gets out to investigate but doesn't return. Martín follows and finds Montesino apparently dead and the police car overturned, with the officers killed. A sniper starts firing at Martín, who returns fire but is shot in the leg. He seeks refuge in the prisoners' section of the transport vehicle as the story takes off. As the night progresses into chaos amidst freezing temperatures well below zero, Martín must use his wits to outsmart criminal masterminds, overcome hurdles, & make decisions that could determine his fate. Below Zero offers an intense thrill ride where action, crime, & the unforgiving winter climate play central roles. The ending scene shows Martín walking away from the police headquarters, leaving his career behind, as the audience wonders what his future holds.
