When a prominent French politician is found dead in the Channel Tunnel, straddling the border between France and the UK, detectives Karl Roebuck and Elise Wassermann are sent to investigate on behalf of their respective countries. As they delve deeper into the case, they uncover a trail of clues leading them to a serial killer who is using their crimes to highlight social injustices.
