Während der deutschen Besetzung von Frankreich hatte die Gestapo ungefähr zwanzig Zimmer des Hotels Terminus in Lyon zu Vernehmungsräumen umfunktioniert. Als Kommandant der Gestapo zwischen 1942 bis 1944 wurde Klaus Barbie, der Henker von Lyon, berüchtigt als Mörder und Folterer. Das Hotel Terminus wurde nicht nur ein Symbol für die letzte Station von Barbies Opfern, sondern auch für das Ende jeglicher Menschlichkeit.
