In 1781, Lady Seymour Worsley, a wealthy English heiress, creates a scandal by leaving her husband, Sir Richard Worsley, for her lover, Captain George Bisset. Sir Richard responds by suing Bisset for 'criminal conversation' and demanding a large sum of money for the damage done to his property. While Lady Worsley and Bisset hide out in a London hotel, Sir Richard and his lawyers concoct devious schemes to prove Lady Worsley's infidelity in court. But Lady Worsley has a secret that could change everything. Will it be enough to save her lover from ruin and protect her own reputation?
