Luis Vargas, a wealthy Cuban coffee merchant, falls for Julia Russell, a beautiful American woman he has corresponded with through letters. After a whirlwind romance, they get married and Luis gives Julia access to his business and personal bank accounts. However, their bliss is short-lived as a detective arrives looking for Julia, claiming that she is an impostor and may have killed her sister. As Luis discovers that Julia has taken all of his money and is working with the detective, he is torn between his love for her and his need for revenge. The couple embarks on a dangerous game of cat and mouse, with a tragic ending that neither could have predicted.
