That it was made with some sense of care for the real-life figures at its center makes it slightly more admirable than other movies of its type.

"Devotion" is a 2022 American war drama film directed by J.D. Dillard and written by J.D. Dillard and Shaun Troke. The film is based on the true story of two U.S. Navy fighter pilots, Tom Hudner and Jesse Brown, who served during the Korean War. The movie follows their lives as they risk their lives during the war and become some of the Navy's most celebrated wingmen. The film opens with Tom Hudner, a white naval aviator, transferring to Fighter Squadron 32 (VF-32) at Quonset Point Naval Air Station, where he meets Ensign Jesse Brown, the only black member of the unit. Despite facing discrimination and racism, Brown is determined to prove himself as a skilled pilot. The two men become fast friends and are assigned to fly powerful F4U-4 Corsair planes. As the war breaks out between North and South Korea, VF-32 is deployed to support the South. Brown and Hudner fly several missions, including a dangerous mission to destroy a pair of bridges on the Yalu River between China and North Korea. During the mission, Brown's plane is crippled, and he is forced to crash-land in a clearing in the mountains of North Korea. Hudner deliberately crashes his own plane in the clearing to aid Brown, but Brown dies shortly after a Marine helicopter arrives to assist him. The film concludes with Hudner receiving the Medal of Honor from President Harry Truman for his attempts to save Brown. The film ends with a note that Brown's remains have never been recovered from North Korea, and that Hudner and Brown's families remain close friends to this day. "Devotion" is a powerful and moving film that highlights the bravery and sacrifice of two naval aviators during the Korean War. The film celebrates the friendship and camaraderie between Brown and Hudner, who risked their lives for each other despite the challenges they faced due to racism and discrimination.
