Beanpole

Beanpole is a movie that tells the story of two young women, Iya and Masha, who are trying to rebuild their lives in post-WWII Leningrad. The city is in ruins, and the citizens are struggling to survive both physically and mentally. Iya works as a nurse in a hospital, while Masha returns from the front lines and starts working alongside her. The two women form a close bond, but their relationship is complicated by Masha's desire to have a child, which she cannot bear due to her own infertility. She asks Iya to bear a child for her, but Iya refuses, leading to tension between them. Meanwhile, Dr. Nikolay Ivanovich, the hospital's director, becomes involved in their lives and helps them navigate their struggles. The movie explores themes of trauma, hope, and survival in the face of devastation and loss.
