The Boy Next Door is a 2015 American psychological thriller film directed by Rob Cohen and starring Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Guzman, and Ian Nelson. The movie follows Claire Peterson (Lopez), a high school teacher who is recently separated from her husband Garrett (John Corbett) after he cheats on her with his secretary. Claire's colleague and best friend Vicky Lansing (Kristin Chenoweth) encourages her to divorce him. Meanwhile, Noah Sandborn (Guzman), a charismatic 19-year-old orphan who recently lost his parents, moves in next door to help his uncle, who uses a wheelchair. Noah befriends Claire's teenage son Kevin (Nelson) and begins attending his school, where Claire teaches classics. Noah is drawn to Claire by their shared love for Homer's Iliad. One evening, while Kevin and Garrett are away on a fishing trip, Claire goes on a disastrous double date with Vicky, her boyfriend Ethan (Travis Schuldt), and his ill-mannered friend Benny (Brian Mahoney). Feeling lonely and vulnerable, Claire later has dinner with Noah and ends up sleeping with him. However, the next morning, Noah becomes possessive and violent when Claire regrets their night together. As the school year begins, Noah starts attending classes where he charms everyone with his intelligence and wit but displays erratic behavior towards Claire in private moments. Despite this red flag behavior from her young lover that summer before school started again in the fall semester of that year until Christmas Day or New Year's Eve wishevaltime approaches quickly depending if there will be enough snow outside during winter break between December 24th through January 3rd because sometimes it can take place anytime within those ten days leading up to final exams week before winter holidays begin which usually falls around late November early December when all Thanksgiving decorations are still put up around town but not yet taken down since they won't come down until after New Years Day thus giving these two secret lovers plenty of time left over from spending quality time together while trying keep things hidden away from prying eyes especially since they live right next door to each other making sneaking around at night much easier compared if either one lived far apart; distance wise not emotionally speaking like how one would feel if they were separated by vast oceans unable ever see their special someone every day whenever desired without worry about being caught behind closed doors at an ungodly hour when most ordinary citizens would already long be fast asleep dreaming sweet dreams about whatever fantasies bring them joy & happiness...
