This is a movie that has inspired an annual convention and the Church of the Latter-Day Dude.

What is The Big Lebowski about? Toggle content

The Big Lebowski is a quirky comedy-crime film about Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, an laid-back, weed-smoking, bowling-loving slacker who gets mistaken for a millionaire with the same name. When two thugs break into his apartment and pee on his rug, the Dude sets out to get a replacement from his wealthy namesake. Along with his bowling buddies Walter and Donny, they embark on a wild and wacky adventure involving kidnapping, extortion, sex, dope, German Nihilists, White Russians, mysterious cowboys, Shomer Shabbos, bowling and severed toes. The film features an all-star cast including Jeff Bridges as the Dude himself and John Goodman as Walter Sobchak. With its offbeat humor and memorable characters The Big Lebowski has become cult classic since its release in 1998.
